I’m always excited at the prospect of the ‘new year’. January 1st always feels like a reset with the opportunity to set intentions for the coming year, and as someone who loves to make a list and plan, this is the perfect moment to make a list of places that I’d like to visit for the coming year.

So, without further ado, here’s my 2023 bucket list of places that I’d like to explore.

Palacio de Bellas Artes - The Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City

Mexico City, Mexico

Between its epic street food and divine restaurants, Mexico City is known for its delicious and diverse culinary scene, with a wide range of dishes and flavors to try. But that’s not all that this metropolis with a population of just over 9.2m people has to offer!

Mexico City is home to several important historical and cultural landmarks, including the ancient city of Teotihuacan, the Zocalo (central square), and the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Palace).

As one can imagine, in a city offering incredible food and culture, there’s also a thriving nightlife scene, with a wide range of bars, clubs, and live music venues to choose from.

Overall, Mexico City is a great destination for anyone interested in experiencing the rich culture and history of Mexico.

Palm Springs Sign on Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs, CA

Palm Springs, California

Just a couple of hours from Los Angeles, the desert landscape of Palm Springs is a fantastic canvas of contemporary art and design. Known for its mid-century modernist architecture, there are several tours available that will take you to some of the most iconic buildings in the area.

With over 300 days of sunshine, Palm Springs is an ideal spot to enjoy the outdoors. If you’d like to go beyond the poolside, there are several hiking trails to explore with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. When you’re ready to ascend, you can take the scenic journey up the mountains on the tramway for spectacular views.

Palm Springs is a great destination for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the beauty of the desert.

Peggys Cove Halifax, Nova Scotia

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Having never travelled to Atlantic Canada, it is about time for me to venture east and there are many reasons to visit the capital of Nova Scotia.

Firstly, Halifax is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse and the Halifax Public Gardens.

And there’s also its food! The city is known for its delicious seafood, and there are many local restaurants and food markets to try.

Beyond the food, there’s of course the city’s rich history and culture. Halifax has many historical and cultural landmarks to visit, including the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

Yellow tram in the city centre of Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, and it is a popular destination for travelers and It’s been on my radar for quite some time.

This vibrant city is home to a variety of architectural styles, including Art Deco, Baroque, and Modernist. It’s beautiful landscape is complemented by incredible scenery with much to explore, including the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park and the Arrabida Natural Park.

For such a historical city, there are many museums, galleries, and cultural landmarks to visit, including the Jeronimos Monastery and the Belem Tower.

And then there’s the food! Lisbon is known for its delicious and diverse culinary scene, with a wide range of dishes and flavors to try, including the traditional Portuguese pastry, pastel de nata. And where there’s food, there’s fun! Lisbon has a thriving nightlife scene, with a wide range of bars, clubs, and live music venues to choose from.

With a new year ahead, there’s a lot of discover! As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “the purpose of live is to live it, to taste it, to experience to the utmost…”. In embracing this spirit, where will you go this year?
